CHANCELLOR AWARD 2022

Roisah Binti Abdullah

Roisah Binti Abdullah’s life reads like a biographic novel. A developing storyline that will inspire many who knows her personally. Suffice to say, this young scholar’s drive and determination has changed her destiny. A top STPM scholar, a UNIRAZAK scholarship recipient, a student leader, and a Bachelor of Accounting (Honours) degree graduate.

The outstanding Chancellor Award winner chose accounting for the many opportunities it offers. The profession gives her the chance to learn about a business and how it operates from routine to non-routine activities. Demonstrating that excellence isn’t university campus bound, she believes that the accounting profession will expose her to interacting and learning from people of different professions.

This committed young accountant-to-be has been on the Dean’s list for five semesters, passed all six CPA Australia professional papers with three Distinctions and one Credit, and just short of less than three years to become a chartered accountant in Malaysia. She graduates with a CGPA of 3.75 from the School of Accounting and is currently an Audit Associate at PwC Malaysia.

How does it feel to receive the Chancellor Award?

I am honoured to receive this award. It was such a long journey with ups and downs along the way. It made me feel like all the effort has paid off. I remember that success does not come overnight. It takes preparation, dedication and perseverance. I am also grateful to my family, friends and lecturers who were and are still a part of my journey. They have contributed to this achievement. Without their help and blessings, I will not be here. I really appreciate them for what they do for me.

Please share with us some of your biggest challenges at UNIRAZAK and how you overcame it.

One of the biggest challenges faced when I was studying at UNIRAZAK is when we were hit by the pandemic. The method of conducting classes had to change from physical to online. It was difficult to cope especially when the pandemic first started. I was in the third year where all subjects were more challenging and which required in-class lectures to gain a thorough understanding. It was tough and I realised that I need to accept these changes to be able to move forward in my life as a student. It was difficult as first but here I am now, finished with my studies, and experienced a new way of life where everyone is able to do both, physically and remotely.

What was your favourite part about studying at UNIRAZAK?

The course that UNIRAZAK has offered to students where the students are not only equipped with the Bachelor’s degree but also professional qualification to get us ready for the working world. Besides that, I learned so many things from the lecturers, gained from their immense knowledge and listened to their experiences especially from the accounting background. It has inspired me to do my best in this path I have chosen.

Which instructor(s) influenced you most?

All of my Accounting and CPA lecturers.

Every person I have ever met, I have listened closely to them and sought to learn as much as possible from them. Each of them are different and unique from each other in many ways which I feel amazed by. I realised that they communicate with their own words and intentions. They shared great advices and tips on how I can go about life during and after university years. That inspired me totally both in my academics and career.

Tell us some of the things you are truly thankful for.

I am grateful to have such a wonderful close family by my side during my 4-years journey as a student. I am also thankful to UNIRAZAK for the scholarship offered to further my studies in accounting field, and the lecturers who always guide me with  meaningful knowledge and good advices whenever I feel lost. Besides, I am grateful to my friends for always being there for me when I needed it. I appreciate the times we’ve had thus far. Words cannot express my feelings, nor my thanks for all help I received directly or indirectly. Your thoughfulness will be always be remembered. Thank you.

What is one piece of advice you would give to new students?

As an alumnus, I would like to encourage new Razakians to be brave and follow your heart in whichever journey you have chosen for your future. There will be difficult times and challenges coming your way, you will stand tall and embrace it as you grow stronger. Shall no effort be wasted in this battle. Victory awaits you in the end. It’d be worth it. Lastly, I hope that you would get what you’ve wished for and may all your dreams come true.

" Plan your goals and try to achieve it; does not matter if it is academic goals or non-academic goals. Do not live your life without direction as you will be lost and waste precious time at UNIRAZAK. "

The full lockdown happened when I was just starting my second semester of my bachelor’s degree and it is the worst thing that could have happen during my university life. The transition from physical to online learning makes it easy for some of us to lose motivation.

However, I see it as an opportunity for us to study effectively by using technology as part of the learning process. I overcame the challenges by looking at the positive side of the situation and took full advantage on it.

What was your favourite part about studying at UNIRAZAK?

There are a lot of things that I would surely miss about UNIRAZAK. I like how the lecturers conducted their classes. Although their styles are different, but they share something in common which is not to let any student be left behind. They are so effective and caring throughout my entire journey.

The location of the university which is in the heart of the city makes it more memorable for us as we can always explore the big city after class by experiencing the wonderful attractions offered in the city.

Which instructor(s) influenced you most?

I am so grateful to all my lecturers since foundation and bachelor’s for playing a part in my success. There is one lecturer whom I wish to express deepest appreciation to; Professor Latifah.  She guided me throughout most of my journey at UNIRAZAK.

I see her not just as a lecturer, but also as a mother figure that cares about her students. She always gives her best in class and I really appreciate her vast knowledge in the field of Islamic Financial Planning.

To Professor Latifah, thank you for being there for me and supporting me from the beginning until the end. I could not thank you enough for everything that you have done for me.

Tell us some of the things you are truly thankful for.

Other than that, I am truly thankful for all my friends that have been with me since day one until our graduation day.

What is one piece of advice you would give to new students?

Plan your goals and try to achieve it; does not matter if it is academic goals or non-academic goals. Do not live your life without direction as you will be lost and waste precious time at UNIRAZAK.
